I recently assigned my students a pretty simple design project… “Make 5 Web Banners, using the top performing sizes for Google Ads to promote your fake app design”.  Moments later, one of my students (let’s call him “Michael”) groaned “I don’t want to type all those pixel numbers into Photoshop… I bet I can find a template online to use.”  Now, as a rule… using templates is not expressly forbidden in my classroom (since honestly, we ALL do it), but it got me thinking about just how lazy designers can be toward the end of a project.

His comment actually made me chuckle in class.  I shrugged and remarked “Do what you gotta do to get the job done, but you should be making a template for your portfolio anyways”.  Then I stopped, and tried to remember if I EVEN HAD a template that I had made.  Turns out I did… I make it a few months ago.  So, here you go internet.

Keeping in tradition of giving away my artwork and templates, I updated the following Web Banner Starter Kit for lazy designers.  Honestly, this isn’t anything to get excited about people, but it is SUPER helpful if you don’t have one of your own (and have terminal laziness like Michael).

Feel free to use this if you need to knock out banners for Google Ads, but don’t want to take your hand off your coffee cup to click your mouse or enter pixel dimensions.

I know from experience that losing your template, or not having one (if you are a filthy casual) means you have to look up all the dimensions again, and make all the shapes again… which is dreadful since you will HAVE to move your hands further from coffee, and closer to the keyboard.

This template is completely free to use, and isn’t one of those “Enter your email for a crappy template” sorta things, so feel free to spread it around and use it however you see fit.  At least now, you don’t have to ever have to do this again.  Cheers all, enjoy (or don’t… as if I care… it’s free).
